This 3,400-square-foot space in the heart of downtown Phoenix is home to Mercantile, an Aveda hair salon that is curated with both vintage and designer goods, allowing salon patrons to peruse the shop while waiting for their time ‘in the chair’. Limited to four styling stations, owner Shauna Thibault seeks to maintain a quieter, more intimate salon experience. Its overlapping program and high-style inventory has made Mercantile one of Phoenix’s most sought-after hair salons. Openness is maintained by organizing styling stations and products on opposite sides of the 100’ long north and south walls of the space. An ever-changing assemblage of sandblasted wood beams comprise the point of sale near the main entry of the salon. Custom merchandise shelves in collaboration with Unlikely Creatures.
