DIETZ RESIDENCE
PHOENIX, ARIZONA
2014
Located on the south side of Phoenix’s iconic Camelback Mountain, the Dietz Residence is a modernized 5,200-square-foot home that provides grand views of the surrounding desert landscape without forfeiting privacy or its ranch style heritage. Departing from traditional wall-and-hallway conventions, the house is organized by way of discrete volumes that separate one space from another. These volumes enclose smaller uses such as closets and bathrooms within, while larger uses such as living areas and bedrooms are defined as the spaces between them. A large, north-facing clerestory window dramatically brings the mountain into the great room. Stacking sliders on both sides of the space serve to extend the living area into the outside.
